Three new caps named by new Scotland coach Matt Williams; scrum-half Chris Cusiter, former Scotland U21 skipper flanker Allister Hogg and centre Tom Philip. Gregor Townsend and Brian Redpath had retired as had fullback Glenn Metcalf. This was Chris Paterson's first game as captain.
Welsh fullback Thomas earned his 73rd Cap taking him past Ieun Evans into 3rd place on the list of Welsh international players. There were six changes from the team that ran England close 17-28 in the Rugby World Cup quarter finals last November.Gareth Llewellyn became the second highest cap winner for Wales.
Wales continued its sparkling form it displayed against England in the World Cup, showing that game was not a fluke. Scotland had no answers.
