Mtawarira was making his test debut. Smit was making his 51st test as captain for South Africa equalling Sean Fitzpatrick of New Zealand’s record of test as captain. Percy Montgomery continued his test career and increased his record tally of tests for South Africa to 96.
Matfield and Botha were appearing in the lock position for South Africa for the 37th time, a record. James scored his 100th point for South Africa.
Williams' try for Wales was his 43rd, still the record for Welsh tries.
