Previews

This is the first ever test between these two neighbours. Namibia usually plays against South Africa Amateur in the CAR Africa Cup first division. Jonathan Kaplan of South Africa will referee this match. This is a rare occurrence in this age of neutral referees. Former Springbox coach Nick Mallet will assist the Namibians whilst they are in camp in Capetown. The Namibians had two non-test warm up matches before arriving in Capetown. They defeated South Africa Amateur 42-34 and then lost to South Africa Students 20-32, both matches in Windhoek.

Spain’s first match in the second leg is against Czech Republic in Madrid on November 3rd. Spain won the first match 42-15 in Prague. Although holding second place in the competition Spain fulfilled all its first round commitments whereas most other nations have catch up games to play. Before November Spain will play in an amateur tournament to be played in France 8-13 September. At this tournament Spain will face, at this stage, Belgium, Russia, England Amateur and France Amateur.

Spain has chosen their squad for their two-Test tour of South America, starting next week.

The Spanish Lions will play Chile's Condors in Santiago on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, and then Uruguay's Teros in Montevido on 18 August.

Coach Ger Glynn will then bring his men home for their European Nations Cup Campaign with the aim of staying in Division 1.

Glynn has brought in seven players who did not play for Spain last season. He has brought back flank Rafael Camacho and lock Caesar Bernasconi back and has chosen seven new caps for the tour - prop Igor Alberro, centre Raul Turrión, fullback Julien Tortoulou, who plays in France for Colomiers, flank Mathieu Gratton who plays in France for Graulhet, scrumhalf Mathieu Lopez who plays in France for Mont-de-Marsan,

Flyhalf and goal-kicker Esteban Roqué retired from international rugby after Spain's match with the Barbarians in May.

Uruguay have won three times, Spain twice. In 2001 Spain beat Uruguay 16-14 in Montevideo, the last time the two teams met.

Before the European Nations Cup resumes, Spain will play England Amateurs, Belgium, France Amateurs and Russia.
